01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Just off the shopping arcade in Jujo, climbing the stairs leads to the doorway of PaPaGue Coffee. Inside, mellow music plays as model trains steadily circle an overhead track around the room. Along the counter, an array of vintage cups and saucers is neatly arranged, allowing patrons to pick out the exact porcelain vessel for their pour—a quiet, personalized ritual unique to the cafe.

The coffee lineup is anchored by two signature roasts: the medium-roast Papague Blend, known for its gentle acidity and smooth texture, and the dark-roast Saru Blend, which balances robust bitterness and body with an undertone of sweetness. The cafe also rotates monthly single-origin specialty coffees and brews a premium iced coffee carrying clean fruit notes, giving visitors varied roast profiles to match their mood.

Pairing a brew with one of the weekly handmade cakes completes the visit. The rotation includes rustic selections such as walnut and maple syrup chiffon cake—blending nutty warmth with mild sweetness—and a refreshing rare cheesecake. Ordering a drink takes 100 yen off the cake price, making it easy to enjoy a slice of rich chocolate cake or soft chiffon alongside a cup of hand-drip coffee.

With low-volume jazz playing beneath the soft hum of trains running along the miniature track, the cafe provides a calm setting to slow down. Open during the day on Sundays, it works equally well for nursing a warm cup alone at the counter or sharing an unhurried conversation.
